The next day was spent at the playground in Downtown Blowing Rock. We played on the swings and had a picnic until the rain sent us back to the house. Mo and Sam even tried to lure some birds to the picnic to eat their lunch. Great family fun!

Happy Birthday, America!
Jason got us up EARLY :: cough, 5am :: for our long weekend in Blowing Rock. This was our first attempt at carrying on the Harwell family tradition of getting a jump on travel with sweet kiddos sleeping until they are awakened for breakfast. Jason grossly underestimated our children who were WIDE AWAKE from the minute we buckled them in the car.

We celebrated the 4th in fine style. In the morning, we drank coffee on the porch and soaked up the 65 degree weather. Then we took Sam out for a walk in the woods. The naturalist was able to find some flowers, bugs, and turkey feathers. The highlight may have been when Sam tried to encourage a dead earthworm to "dig tunnel" - and kept pushing him into a hole with his finger. Good thing the worm was already dead.Later, we headed to town for fireworks. Waiting for the show to begin and playing with glow sticks...

This is a picture of my childhood...Aunt Ruthie and my mom. Two great friends having a GREAT time! Love you, ladies!!!
