This is my retelling of an interaction from the Chick-fil-A play area as told to me by Jason's mom (aka Nonna.)
Sam: Nonna! Dat boy in da red shirt pull my shirt like dis. (demonstrating the shirt pull)
(Before Nonna can say a word, Mo rushes in.)
Mo: What happened Sam?
Sam: Dat boy in da red shirt pull my shirt like dis. (again with the demonstration)
Mo: Sam. You go over there and tell him, "Please don't pull my shirt."
The dutiful little brother does just that...marches up to the boy in the red shirt who is older than him and tells him what his sister said. (Nonna couldn't see the full interaction.) Sam comes back.
Mo: Well...what did he say?
Sam: He say, "You're welcome."
Mo: (Looking confused) That's not what he was supposed to say. Go back over there and tell him again, "Please don't pull my shirt."
Happy to do what his sister says, Sam marches back over there and says it again. Then comes back.
Mo: What did he say this time?
Sam: He say nothing.
Mo: Well, Sam, if someone is mean to you, you just be nice to them.
I love this for many reasons.
